Menopause &
Hormonal Health Houston
Menopause is a major hormonal transition that affects bone density, metabolism, cardiovascular risk, and quality of life. Our endocrinology team in Houston provides comprehensive evaluation of menopausal symptoms and their downstream health effects โ with an evidence-based, individualized approach.
Quick Facts
The Endocrine Side of Menopause
Menopause marks the end of ovarian estrogen production, triggering a cascade of hormonal changes that affect virtually every organ system. As endocrinologists, we are uniquely positioned to evaluate the metabolic and bone health consequences of this transition โ and to identify other hormonal conditions that frequently emerge or worsen around menopause.
Thyroid disease, adrenal dysfunction, insulin resistance, and PCOS all interact with the menopausal transition in important ways. Many symptoms attributed to menopause may have an underlying endocrine cause that responds to specific treatment.
Bone Loss
Rapid bone density decline accelerates after estrogen withdrawal
Metabolic Changes
Increased central adiposity and insulin resistance post-menopause
Hot Flashes
Vasomotor symptoms affecting sleep and quality of life
Cognitive & Mood Changes
Brain fog, anxiety, and depression linked to hormonal shifts
Sleep Disturbance
Insomnia, night sweats, and disrupted sleep architecture
Cardiovascular Risk
Loss of estrogen's protective effect on cholesterol and vessels
How We Support You Through the Transition
Comprehensive Hormonal & Metabolic Evaluation
We assess FSH, estradiol, thyroid function (TSH, free T4), adrenal markers, fasting glucose, insulin, lipid panel, and Vitamin D. This helps distinguish true menopausal symptoms from thyroid or adrenal conditions โ which are common and often missed.
Bone Density Assessment
Menopause accelerates bone loss significantly in the first 5โ10 years. We recommend DEXA scanning around the time of menopause to establish a baseline and identify women who need early intervention for osteoporosis prevention.
Individualized Hormone & Symptom Management
For appropriate patients, Angel Chazhikat DNP provides hormone replacement therapy evaluation and management. HRT decisions are individualized based on symptom severity, fracture risk, cardiovascular risk, personal preferences, and contraindications. We do not offer BioTe pellet therapy.
Metabolic Risk Reduction
Post-menopausal women face increased risk of Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic syndrome. We provide proactive screening, lifestyle guidance, and treatment of any metabolic conditions identified during your evaluation.

Menopause FAQ
Why see an endocrinologist for menopause instead of just my gynecologist?
Gynecologists are excellent for reproductive and symptom management. Endocrinologists add value when symptoms may be driven by thyroid disease, adrenal conditions, or insulin resistance โ all of which worsen around menopause โ and for managing bone loss, cardiovascular risk, and metabolic changes that require long-term endocrine monitoring.
Do all of your doctors provide HRT?
Angel Chazhikat DNP specializes in hormone replacement therapy and metabolic wellness and is our primary provider for HRT consultations. Our physicians focus primarily on the endocrine and metabolic evaluation of menopausal women. We do not offer BioTe pellet therapy.
When should I get a bone density test?
We recommend discussing DEXA screening around the time of menopause, particularly if you have additional risk factors such as a family history of fractures, low body weight, smoking history, steroid use, or early menopause. Starting a baseline early allows us to track bone loss over time and intervene before osteoporosis develops.
My hot flashes are severe. Is there anything other than HRT that can help?
Yes. Several non-hormonal options have evidence for vasomotor symptom relief, including certain antidepressants (SSRIs/SNRIs), gabapentin, and fezolinetant (a newer FDA-approved non-hormonal option). We discuss all appropriate options with patients who have contraindications to or preferences against HRT.
