Weight Loss &
Metabolic Medicine Houston
Struggling with weight despite doing everything 'right'? There may be a hormonal or metabolic reason. Our endocrinologists in Houston treat the underlying metabolic drivers of weight gain — not just the number on the scale — using the latest evidence-based therapies including GLP-1 receptor agonists.
Quick Facts
Weight Gain Is Often a Hormonal Problem
Obesity is a complex, chronic disease — not a failure of willpower. Hormonal imbalances, insulin resistance, thyroid dysfunction, and metabolic disorders are frequently at the root of weight gain that doesn't respond to diet and exercise alone.
As endocrinologists, we are uniquely equipped to investigate and treat these metabolic drivers. Angel Chazhikat DNP brings specific expertise in weight management and HRT, while our physicians provide the medical evaluation and prescriptions for evidence-based obesity pharmacotherapy.
Insulin Resistance
The most common hidden driver of stubborn weight and hunger
Thyroid Disorders
Hypothyroidism slows metabolism and causes weight gain
Cortisol Dysregulation
Chronic stress and adrenal issues increase abdominal fat
PCOS
Hormonal imbalance drives weight gain in millions of women
Sleep & Hormones
Poor sleep disrupts ghrelin and leptin, increasing appetite
Medication-Related
Antidepressants, steroids, and other drugs can promote weight gain
Comprehensive Metabolic Weight Management
Full Metabolic & Hormonal Workup
We start by identifying any underlying hormonal contributors — including thyroid function, insulin and glucose levels, cortisol, sex hormones, and markers of metabolic syndrome — before recommending treatment.
GLP-1 & Obesity Pharmacotherapy
We prescribe and manage the newest FDA-approved weight loss medications, including GLP-1 receptor agonists (semaglutide, tirzepatide), which have demonstrated 15–20% body weight reduction in clinical trials. We also manage metformin and other insulin-sensitizing agents for metabolic health.
Lifestyle & Nutrition Guidance
Medications work best with sustainable lifestyle changes. We provide evidence-based nutritional guidance and help you build a realistic plan for physical activity and behavioral change that fits your life.
Ongoing Monitoring & Adjustment
Weight management is a long-term partnership. We monitor your metabolic markers, adjust medications as needed, and provide the accountability and medical support that drives lasting results.

Weight Loss FAQ
Does insurance cover weight loss medications like semaglutide?
Coverage varies significantly. Many commercial plans cover GLP-1 medications when prescribed for Type 2 diabetes. Coverage for obesity alone depends on your specific plan. We will work with you on prior authorization when needed and can discuss alternative strategies if coverage is limited.
Do I need to have diabetes to be prescribed a GLP-1 medication?
No. Several GLP-1 medications (semaglutide/Wegovy, tirzepatide/Zepbound) are FDA-approved specifically for obesity management, independent of diabetes. Eligibility is based on BMI and health conditions.
What if my thyroid levels are normal but I still can't lose weight?
Normal thyroid labs don't rule out all metabolic contributors. Insulin resistance, cortisol patterns, and gut hormone dysregulation can all impair weight loss. Our evaluation goes beyond standard thyroid testing to build a complete metabolic picture.
How is this different from a weight loss clinic or spa?
We are a board-certified endocrine practice. Our focus is on diagnosing and treating the medical causes of excess weight — not just providing prescriptions. We monitor your full metabolic health, not just the number on the scale.
